PRESS RELEASE | DT SWISS INTRODUCES THE HYBRID UTILITY WHEEL HU 1900 SPLINE
PRESS RELEASE | DT SWISS
The reinforced components of the HU 1900 SPLINE have been engineered, developed and tested to cope with the specific requirements imposed on wheels by e-touring bikes.
With an approved maximum system weight of 180 kg, this wheelset is BUILT TO LAST, ensuring drive and brake torque resistance, even when carrying higher loads.
This first-generation of Hybrid Utility wheels sets the benchmark for an urban- & trekking-ready wheelset, as e-touring bikes become more and more capable of carrying heavier loads and riding further.

HU 1900 SPLINE FEATURES
BUILT TO LAST, the HU 1900 SPLINE wheels have been engineered to ensure lasting durability even under high loads.
With an approved maximum system weight of up to 180 kg at ASTM F2043 Condition 2.
RESISTANT RIM
The higher rim cross section increases the stiffness for enhanced durability of the rim, available in 622 x 25 mm and 584 x 35 mm.
REINFORCED SPOKES
Reinforced 2.34 mm spoke heads ensure consistent withstanding for carrying heavy weights and higher e-bike torques.
HUB
370 hub with trusted Ratchet System technology for uniform load distribution over a large surface area, providing the legendary reliability of the Ratchet System hubs.

HYBRID UPBUILT
Electric bikes and their uses are evolving and diversifying. At high altitude in the mountains, between the tape on a trail, climbing a steep mountain road or weaving between cars with loaded bags in town, the bikes and their expectations are not the same.
This expansion in the e-bike category requires an adaptation of the components. DT Swiss, a pioneer in the diversification of hybrid components, has upbuilt its Hybrid range.
Hybrid Upbuilt answers the new demands of users concerning their electric bikes.

BUILT TO LAST
Due to the latest developments in electric motors and in pedelec concepts, it is possible to transport even larger loads while covering longer distances, often also on rougher tracks. However, this results in higher loads and charge on the wheels and their components.
Hybrid Utility wheels by DT Swiss have been specifically developed and tested to cope with these increased physical strains.
With an approved maximum system weight of 180 kg, the HU 1900 SPLINE provides long-lasting reliability and trust to the e-touring bike user.

DEVELOPMENT CHALLENGES
After considering feedback from distributors and dealers, we understood that a wheel intended for e-touring bikes had to meet specific criteria, in order to bring lasting confidence to users.
If the higher loads and torques of this type of e-bike are not taken into account and the wheels are not reinforced accordingly, cracks may occur on the rim near the spoke holes or there may be possible spoke breakage in the long term. This damage can be caused by the increased weight loads on the system, but also by the rough riding surfaces and tire pressure, which have a significant impact on the durability and performance of a wheel.
To resist and minimize these risks, the HU 1900 SPLINE has been developed and tested to certify a maximum system weight of 180 kg, featuring a deformation resistant rim with a thicker cross section, laced with reinforced 2.34 mm spoke heads spokes.
The reliability of the wheel comes from the quality of its assembly. All wheels are hand-laced by professionally trained wheel-builders, ensuring equal residual spoke tension in every riding situation.
